Bookeemonster: a voracious appetite for books, mostly crime fiction.
Currently reading A FATAL LIE by Charles Todd. 23rd of 23 in series featuring Ian Rutledge, a shell-shocked World War I veteran returning to his job at Scotland Yard, in London
A peaceful Welsh village is thrown into turmoil when a terrified boy stumbles on a body in a nearby river. The man appears to have fallen from the canal aqueduct spanning the valley. But there is no identification on the body, he isn’t a local, and no one will admit to having seen him before. With little to go on, the village police turn to Scotland Yard for help. When Inspector Ian Rutledge is sent from London to find answers, he is given few clues—a faded military tattoo on the victim’s arm and an unusual label in the collar of his shirt. They eventually lead him to the victim’s identity: Sam Milford. By all accounts, he was a good man and well-respected. Then, why is his death so mysterious? Looking for the truth, Rutledge uncovers a web of lies swirling around a suicidal woman, a child’s tragic fate, another woman bent on protecting her past. But where among all the lies is the motive for murder? To track a killer, Rutledge must retrace Milford’s last journey. Yet death seems to stalk his every move, and the truth seems to shift at every turn. Man or woman, this murderer stays in the shadows, and it will take desperate measures to lure him—or her—into the light.

Monday. Still cold. Still Monday.
Bead class on Saturday was good. I had to adjusted my color scheme on the fly that day --- something I hate to do because I'm such a bead diva that it has to be right for me or it just isn't right and I plan for hours what goes together -- anyhoo, because the "bridge" bead in different colors that is a part of this bracelet project was ordered by the store but the truck was delayed by weather. So we all had to wing it with the five limited colors she had on hand. I had been going to be doing a copper and purple bracelet. I wound up doing this:
And I think it probably turned out even better this way. It's a little sparklier in person. After seeing my bracelet, two of the ladies bought the same beads so they could do it my way, too.
Next class is this Saturday instead of the week after because Barb is going to be out of town then. This is the bracelet we're doing:
I'm not sure what colors I'm going to use. It's only 11/0 seed beads and bicones. I have a pomegranate scheme in mind because I don't usually use red a lot or I have a sparkly black seed bead that I've been wanting to use. Or I may change my mind ten times by then.
Currently reading A STRANGER IN TOWN by Kelley Armstrong. 6th of 6 in series featuring Casey Duncan, a homicide detective with a secret, living off the grid in the wilds of northern Canada.

When an injured hiker stumbles from the woods, someone who seems to have come to the Yukon for a wilderness vacation but instead is now fighting for her life, it’s all hands on deck. What – or who – attacked this woman, and why? With the woman unconscious, and no leads, Casey and Eric don’t know where the threat is coming from. Plus, the residents of their deeply secretive town are uneasy with this stranger in their midst. Everyone in Rockton wants this mystery solved – and fast.

Thursday. Colder and colder. And it's only the middle of it.
We've got BattleBots to watch tonight. And I'm almost at the halfway point of the Robb book.
Which could also be said about wishing it were the weekend.
I've got a bead class this weekend, darnit. We're doing the bracelet on the left.
Dinner, TV, reading, bed. Cuddle with boys.
Have a good day

Wednesday. It's just been stupidly crazy at work the last couple of days with people freaked out about the weather and their garage doors
Steve has got the gun range tonight -- if anyone shows up for it with the super cold (though they are inside shooting).
I haven't had much chance to get going in the Robb book, so hopefully tonight.
And hang with the boys until bedtime.
Have a good day

Tuesday. I'll be making a hamburger/mushroom type Whole 30 soup tonight. We'll see how Steve likes it.
About to start FAITHLESS IN DEATH by JD Robb. 52nd of 52 in series featuring Eve Dallas, a homicide
lieutenant in futuristic New York City.
The scene in the West Village studio appears to be classic crime-of-passion: two wineglasses by the bed, music playing, and a young sculptor named Ariel Byrd with the back of her head bashed in. But when Dallas tracks down the wealthy Upper East Side woman who called 911, the details don’t add up. Gwen Huffman is wealthy, elegant, comforted by her handsome fiancé as she sheds tears over the trauma of finding the body—but why did it take an hour to report it? And why is she lying about little things? As Eve and her team look into Gwen, her past, and the people around her, they find that the lies are about more than murder. As with sculpture, they need to chip away at the layers of deception to find the shape within—and soon they’re getting the FBI involved in a case that involves a sinister, fanatical group and a stunning criminal conspiracy.
