Peak a Monday

 Monday.

We adopted Keo on Saturday. He's a 3-year-old pure Akita. He's about 50 pounds. He's allergic to chicken - which apparently isn't rare in dogs. I'll have a photo later. Right now, I'm taking him to the vet because he was allowed to run freely in the country and he appears to have ringworm. So he looks like a plucked chicken in places. But he and I have bonded.

Currently reading SWORN TO SILENCE by Linda Castillo. 1st of 15 in series featuring Kate Burkholder, chief of police in the Amish town of Painters Mill, Ohio

Some secrets are too terrible to reveal . . .Some crimes are too unspeakable to solve . . . In the sleepy rural town of Painters Mill, Ohio, the Amish and "English" residents have lived side by side for two centuries. But sixteen years ago, a series of brutal murders shattered the peaceful farming community. In the aftermath of the violence, the town was left with a sense of fragility, a loss of innocence. Kate Burkholder, a young Amish girl, survived the terror of the Slaughterhouse Killer but came away from its brutality with the realization that she no longer belonged with the Amish. Now, a wealth of experience later, Kate has been asked to return to Painters Mill as Chief of Police. Her Amish roots and big city law enforcement background make her the perfect candidate. She's certain she's come to terms with her past--until the first body is discovered in a snowy field. Kate vows to stop the killer before he strikes again. But to do so, she must betray both her family and her Amish past--and expose a dark secret that could destroy her.

Published 2009; 367 pages. In the book YouTube world, April is Amish month. They like alliteration. I follow a BookTuber who has prompts if one is looking for them to find something Amish to read, "light" and "dark". It could be content, it could be the cover, etc. This book is definitely DARK. It's a gritty police procedural. I'm liking it.

March was a good reading month for me. I completed 13 books.

Three romances, only one sci fi - that's sad. One fantasy. Eight mysteries. And the quality was overall good, too. Favorite .... between RISE OF EMPIRE and A TEMPEST AT SEA. Least favorite was THREE DROPS OF BLOOD, no question. CAPPUCCINO was a scavenger hunt read that was a pleasant surprise.

Tonight I've got a reading sprint at 5pm to tune into. Just gonna hang out, read, and go to bed.

Have a good day

Much love,
