Happy Halloween and Blessed Samhain

 Monday

It was a good weekend. I finished my Found Objects Challenge.

Currently just started reading GREAT CIRCLE by Maggie Shipstead. Stand alone.

After being rescued as infants from a sinking ocean liner in 1914, Marian and Jamie Graves are raised by their dissolute uncle in Missoula, Montana. There--after encountering a pair of barnstorming pilots passing through town in beat-up biplanes--Marian commences her lifelong love affair with flight. At fourteen she drops out of school and finds an unexpected and dangerous patron in a wealthy bootlegger who provides a plane and subsidizes her lessons, an arrangement that will haunt her for the rest of her life, even as it allows her to fulfill her destiny: circumnavigating the globe by flying over the North and South Poles. A century later, Hadley Baxter is cast to play Marian in a film that centers on Marian's disappearance in Antarctica. Vibrant, canny, disgusted with the claustrophobia of Hollywood, Hadley is eager to redefine herself after a romantic film franchise has imprisoned her in the grip of cult celebrity. Her immersion into the character of Marian unfolds, thrillingly, alongside Marian's own story, as the two women's fates--and their hunger for self-determination in vastly different geographies and times--collide. Epic and emotional, meticulously researched and gloriously told, Great Circle is a monumental work of art, and a tremendous leap forward for the prodigiously gifted Maggie Shipstead.

Happy Dance

 Friday. TGIF

Well I had PLANNED to start the Halloween bracelet last night. But the second-to-the-last found objects necklace yelled at me to make it.

It turned out pretty smashing. One more necklace to go. I'll say that this about this go around of found objects, that I'm really playing with colors and blingy.

Tomorrow I have a hair trim and then the bead group at the coffee shop in the afternoon. Tonight ... well, I'm wondering if, after I do my pages, I'll do the last found object necklace to get it out of the way and then I can just take photos.

 The usual stuff otherwise.

 Have a good weekend

When is the weekend, dammit

 Thursday. All day.

It's been cold today. In my bones. I'm wearing a warmer top but my office is either too cold in winter or too warm in the afternoons of summer.

Good news on the binge-watching front. First, there's a new Jack Ryan, season 3, coming on Amazon in December.

Yay! I may have to re-watch season two. It's been a long while.

ANNNNNNDDDD! The latest Doctor Who (the 13th) regenerated into ..... David Tennant! MY Doctor! The Tenth is coming back for one season to be (technically) be the 14th!!

I'll be watching Doctor Who again next year!! And the same writer! What a glorious thing.

I'm meaning to begin working on my November bullet journal at lunch today. Pencilling in.

So then maybe tonight I can start the Halloween bracelet after I do my pages.

 Have a good day

So much chaos out there

 Wednesday

Steve's got the gun range tonight. Oh speaking of him, I came to work this morning and there were flowers on my desk. It could be one of two things: 1) he's happy with the weight loss and likes me again or 2) he's purchased a new gun.

 Honestly I don't know yet.

I didn't do my pages last night. I had live streaming with The Chosen at 6:30 and then Randee at 7. Then I decided to make some earrings. Prior to that I had some spontaneous cleaning break out.

So I need to do my pages but I also got the orange beads from Ann today so I may start making the Halloween bracelet. But I also want to read.

Have a good day

As engaged as I wanna be

 Tuesday.

I'm also starting to read a new release A TRACE OF POISON by Colleen Cambridge. 2nd of 2 in Phyllida Bright series, housekeeper to Agatha Christie.

In England’s stately manor houses, murder is not generally a topic for polite conversation. Mallowan Hall, home to Agatha Christie and her husband, Max, is the exception. And housekeeper Phyllida Bright delights in discussing gory plot details with her friend and employer . . . The neighboring village of Listleigh has also become a hub of grisly goings-on, thanks to a Murder FĂȘte organized to benefit a local orphanage. Members of The Detection Club—a group of celebrated authors such as G.K. Chesterton, Dorothy L. Sayers, and Agatha herself—will congregate for charitable events, including a writing contest for aspiring authors. The winner gets an international publishing contract, and entrants have gathered for a cocktail party—managed by the inimitable Phyllida—when murder strikes too close even for her comfort. It seems the victim imbibed a poisoned cocktail intended for Alastair Whittlesby, president of the local writers’ club. The insufferable Whittlesby is thought to be a shoo-in for the prize, and ambition is certainly a worthy motive. But narrowing down these suspects could leave even Phyllida’s favorite fictional detective, M. Poirot, twirling his mustache in frustration. It’s a mystery too intriguing for Phyllida to resist, but one fraught with duplicity and danger, for every guest is an expert in murder—and how to get away with it . . .

 Published 2022; 299 pages.

And I think I'll be listening to this audiobook this afternoon while I work on invoices:

EAT PRAY DIE by Chelsea Field. 1st of 6 in series.

Being an undercover poison taster for the rich and famous might sound glamorous, but for Isobel Avery it means stomaching bad clients and even worse coffee. The one side of the job that lives up to expectations is the money. Which is just as well for Izzy, since she needs an awful lot of it. Who knew when she made a lifelong commitment to a man that it would be one year living with him and the rest of her life paying for it? But even her scoundrel ex-husband doesn't look so bad compared to her new client. He's competent, condescending, and annoyingly attractive, and Izzy doesn't know whether to sleep with him or poison him herself. Throw in a loan shark, a clever killer, and a co-worker's life hanging in the balance, and Izzy will have her work cut out for her. Can Izzy and her annoyingly attractive client put aside their differences to hunt down the bad guy? Or will Izzy fail to survive her job's probation period?

Published 2016; 344 pages/ 7 hours 33 minutes. Interestingly, the audio reader/performer has an Australian accent.

Tonight the usual stuff. Take care of the boys. Making Mac-n-Cheese for Steve. Prepping pizza salad for tomorrow. Writing my pages. Reading.

 Have a good day

Bah, back to work

Monday

I finished the Sherry Thomas. I'm just starting GOOD GIRL, BAD BLOOD by Holly Jackson. 2nd of 3 in A Good's Girl's Guide to Murder trilogy.

Pip is not a detective anymore. With the help of Ravi Singh, she released a true-crime podcast about the murder case they solved together last year. The podcast has gone viral, yet Pip insists her investigating days are behind her. But she will have to break that promise when someone she knows goes missing. Jamie Reynolds has disappeared, on the very same night the town hosted a memorial for the sixth-year anniversary of the deaths of Andie Bell and Sal Singh. The police won't do anything about it. And if they won't look for Jamie then Pip will, uncovering more of her town's dark secrets along the way... and this time everyone is listening. But will she find him before it's too late?

Published 2021; 388 pages.

I worked on my Found Objects Challenge this weekend. I made six necklaces -- two more to go. I'll have photos when it's all done. They turned out very nice. I've gotten the majority of it done early!

It was nice to not go to the coffee shop on Saturday. There's just no way to work on my FOC there. I need access to all my beads and tools as things work or don't work. Thus I was able to make as much progress as I did. As much as I like seeing my friends, it would be nice also to have the whole weekends free more often.

I didn't work on my bullet journal this weekend -- no time. So I need to work on it as much as I can at lunch and maybe tonight.

Otherwise the usual stuff this evening.

 Have a good day

Much love,

PK the Bookeemonster
