What happened to the weekend?

Monday. Bah humbug.

This weekend I didn't do much other than nap and read. I read THE PASSENGERS which I mentioned in an earlier post. It was very good. Excellent commentary on our social media culture, driver-less vehicles, and government misuse of data mining. Also an entertaining read.

Just starting THE WISE MAN'S FEAR by Patrick Rothfuss. 2nd of the Kingkiller Chronicle trilogy.

Kvothe searches for answers, attempting to uncover the truth about the mysterious Amyr, the Chandrian, and the death of his parents. Along the way, Kvothe is put on trial by the legendary Adem mercenaries, forced to reclaim the honor of his family, and travels into the Fae realm. There he meets Felurian, the faerie woman no man can resist, and who no man has ever survived...until Kvothe. Now, Kvothe takes his first steps on the path of the hero and learns how difficult life can be when a man becomes a legend in his own time.

Nothing really on TV tonight. We have a Steelers game. I don't care one way or the other if I tune into Prodigal Son.

Since it's a bit chilly out, I'm making Portuguese Sausage soup for Steve. I may make some dumplings for the chicken soup I have from last week for myself.

That's about it. See ya tomorrow.

Have a good day

Friday!

TGIF!

Tonight we have Battle Bots and Live PD. I also have Making the Team and a new episode of The Great British Baking Show.

On Sunday is the season 11 premiere of NCIS: Los Angeles,  "Let Fate Decide":

Callen and Sam work with Navy Capt. Harmon Rabb, Jr. (David James Elliott) to apprehend spies aboard the USS Allegiance. Also, Hetty partners with Marine Lt. Col. Sarah “Mac” Mackenzie to neutralize a missile attack in the Middle East, and Kensi and Deeks are trapped in a mobile CIA unit in Iraq while under attack by ISIS
And it looks like Linda Hunt is back from taking most of the year off to recover from a car accident.

Today is also our wedding anniversary today. 22 years.

We won't be doing any special. Just glad it's a weekend.

No plans. It's supposed to be rainy.  Lovely!

There's a seminar of Danielle's I could/should go to but my gut feeling says stay home, read, and cuddle with the boys.

Just starting THE PASSENGERS by John Marrs. Stand alone.

You’re riding in your self-driving car when suddenly the doors lock, the route changes and you have lost all control. Then, a mysterious voice tells you, “You are going to die.” Just as self-driving cars become the trusted, safer norm, eight people find themselves in this terrifying situation, including a faded TV star, a pregnant young woman, an abused wife fleeing her husband, an illegal immigrant, a husband and wife, and a suicidal man. From cameras hidden in their cars, their panic is broadcast to millions of people around the world. But the public will show their true colors when they are asked, "Which of these people should we save?...And who should we kill first?"

The solitude of wishing for Friday

Nothing really on TV for me tonight. We'll probably watch some football. Last night I watched The Masked Singer. Strange show but I'll keep watching it. Here's some of the costumes/characters competing this season:

There will be sixteen in all. Two were eliminated last night. The Egg and the Ice Cream Cone. I guessed the first and didn't have a clue who the guy was on the second. It's interesting, but very strange.

That's about it. Otherwise I'll probably read. There's a storm front moving in. It's supposed to cold and rainy this weekend.

Just the way I like it. Snuggling and reading.

Have a good day

Ha cha!

Last night's TV was pretty good. This Is Us was the boring-est ep I've ever seen but whatever. And we now who didn't make it from the ambulance crash. They were sneaky but they did reveal it eventually.  Let the new TV season begin.

Tonight, I wasn't really going to have anything to watch on Wednesdays but I recently promised our Service Manager that I would watch The Masked Singer with him so he'd have someone to talk to about it the next day. What is The Masked Singer, you may be asking?

Yes, it's a reality show featuring B level or less celebrities. And, yes, it's TWO HOURS tonight.

I was hoping to get a TV tray or portable table thing so I could bead while watching but I haven't had the chance to do that yet. Maybe I could read.

Steve's got the gun range tonight so it will just be me and the boys hanging out.

Have a good day

So happy

Tonight is TV night. At last! We have the season 2 premiere of New Amsterdam. And we find out (they promise) who died in the ambulance crash.

Tonight, season 2 episode 1, "Your Turn":

Max works to find a new normal three months after the catastrophic accident and the birth of his daughter. Kapoor grapples with the stigmas of aging, and Iggy has a successful day that inspires a life-changing idea. Meanwhile, Reynolds deals with an unreliable new intern.
So happy. This is the one I've been waiting for all summer.

Prior to that is the season four premiere of This Is Us, "Strangers":

Jack meets Rebecca’s parents. New characters are introduced.
I just have to stay up until 10 tonight after a tiring day with our Service Manager out with a migraine.

Oh, last night's viewing of Prodigal Son was meh. I loved Michael Sheen; he was having a lot of fun playing a charming serial killer. Tom Payne was at times so over the top or so not acting very well it made it difficult to enjoy. Pilots are difficult because you have so much set up and catching the eye of the network that you throw everything plus the kitchen sink in it that it is sometimes not a true picture of the show. I hope that's the case. I'll give it another try but at this point it's something I don't really need to make time for.

Currently reading THE GIRL HE USED TO KNOW by Tracey Garvis Graves. Stand alone.

Annika Rose is an English major at the University of Illinois. Anxious in social situations where she finds most people's behavior confusing, she'd rather be surrounded by the order and discipline of books or the quiet solitude of playing chess. Jonathan Hoffman joined the chess club and lost his first game - and his heart - to the shy and awkward yet brilliant and beautiful Annika. He admires her ability to be true to herself, quirks and all, and accepts the challenges involved in pursuing a relationship with her. Jonathan and Annika bring out the best in each other, finding the confidence and courage within themselves to plan a future together. What follows is a tumultuous yet tender love affair that withstands everything except the unforeseen tragedy that forces them apart, shattering their connection and leaving them to navigate their lives alone. Now, a decade later, fate reunites Annika and Jonathan in Chicago. She's living the life she wanted as a librarian. He's a Wall Street whiz, recovering from a divorce and seeking a fresh start. The attraction and strong feelings they once shared are instantly rekindled, but until they confront the fears and anxieties that drove them apart, their second chance will end before it truly begins.

No kidding

And we're back.

And it's the first day of Fall!

And it's the first day of new Fall TV season. I don't really have anything on Mondays but I will check out a new show tonight. Called Prodigal Son.

Malcolm Bright knows how killers think and how their minds work, because his father, Dr. Martin Whitly, was one of the most notorious serial killers, called “The Surgeon.” Alongside his longtime mentor, Gil Arroyo, and detectives Dani Powelland JT Tarmel, he helps the NYPD solve crimes by profiling killers, while also dealing with a manipulative mother, Jessica Whitly, an annoyingly normal sister, Ainsley Whitly and a homicidal father still looking to bond with his prodigal son.

I like Michael Sheen and I like Tom Payne from The Walking Dead and I like criminal profiling. We'll see how it goes.

Last night, I finally finished the 1000+ fantasy book I was reading. I'm not sure what I'm reading next.

And that's about it.

Have a good day

Ahhhhh Friday

Here we are at last.

Tonight on TV we have Battle Bots, I have Making the Team, and then we'll watch Live PD which is back live again after a three week break. I've already watched the new Great British Baking Show episode for today.

I'm about 64% through the fantasy book I'm reading but for a little palate cleanse, I'm also just starting WELL MET by Jen DeLuca. Stand alone contemporary romance.

Emily knew there would be strings attached when she relocated to the small town of Willow Creek, Maryland, for the summer to help her sister recover from an accident, but who could anticipate getting roped into volunteering for the local Renaissance Faire alongside her teenaged niece? Or that the irritating and inscrutable schoolteacher in charge of the volunteers would be so annoying that she finds it impossible to stop thinking about him? The faire is Simon's family legacy and from the start he makes clear he doesn't have time for Emily's lighthearted approach to life, her oddball Shakespeare conspiracy theories, or her endless suggestions for new acts to shake things up. Yet on the faire grounds he becomes a different person, flirting freely with Emily when she's in her revealing wench's costume. But is this attraction real, or just part of the characters they're portraying? This summer was only ever supposed to be a pit stop on the way to somewhere else for Emily, but soon she can't seem to shake the fantasy of establishing something more with Simon or a permanent home of her own in Willow Creek.

Published 2019; 335 pages.

No plans for the weekend really. I have to get groceries, that's it for "have to's". I could go to a psychics' fair or to the bead shop but I think I may wind up just staying home and reading, napping, Interneting, etc. on this lovely rainy potentially Saturday.

Why? Because I'm tired out from the week.

But I did accomplish some big things at work so that's good.

Have a good weekend

Much love,
