Relax and be Merry

Today's Blog/Website of the Day is a bit of fun. The University of Wisconsin-Madison library has an Archive of Nurse Romance Covers which can be found at http://www.uwm.edu/Library/special/nurse_romance/archive_romance.htm. Almost as fun as pulp fiction covers.

I think I'll be sticking with the Michael Jecks, THE LAST TEMPLAR which is first of 26 featuring Simon Puttock, medieval West County bailiff, and Sir Baldwin Furnshill, ex-Templar Knight, in 14th century Devon, England. This book was published in 1995. Here's a description:
Simon Puttock has not been bailiff of Lydford Castle long in this year of 1316, when he is called to a nearby village to examine a burned-out cottage and the dead body within. But it is the newly arrived knight, Sir Baldwin Furnshill, who discerns the deceased was no victim of a tragic mishap; he was, in fact, murdered prior to the blaze. Simon would be well-served by accepting further assistance from this astute, though haunted and secretive stranger. For a second fatal burning indicates that some harsh evil has invaded this once-peaceful place.
The author's website can be found at http://www.michaeljecks.co.uk/.
I think Dad liked his card and lemon bars. His gift has yet to show up at the house. (Note: Mom, don't let him buy any tomato plants. I got it covered.)
We're definitely not going to the Art Auction tonight. Just tuckered and want to relax at home this weekend. Steve is so fired up to see Watchman at the theater but we may wait until mid-week when things quiet down. He's a fanboy of the graphic novel from way back.
I'd better put notes up around the house to remember to turn the clocks forward tonight.
Have a good Saturday....
Much love,

An update: the nurse romance book cover collection is a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee project.

The UW System also has a digital collection of Artists' Books, and contributed to Publishers' Bindings Online (1815-1930) - http://uwdc.library.wisc.edu/Collections.shtml
