Happy Samhain

 Tuesday

I got some candy in case we get any kids. We may get a handful or none at all.

I'll be doing sprints per usual. Working on crochet and either listening to an audiobook or watching some BookTubers.

Yesterday was crazy busy plus new service manager starting plus trying to get new-to-me computer in my office. Today continues and I'm getting programs up and running on the computer. Drives me crazy.

Have a good day

Much love,

Monday, work day

Monday

Currently reading A REGIMENTAL MURDER by Ashley Gardner. 2nd of 16 in series featuring Gabriel Lacey, a former cavalry officer in Regency-era London, England.

After saving a beautiful woman from a mysterious assailant near the docks, Captain Lacey helps in her search for her husband's murderers. Her late husband was accused of committing a crime during the atrocities after a Peninsular War battle, and Lydia Westin wants Lacey to clear his name. Lacey investigates with his usual thoroughness, bringing in Lucius Grenville, the immensely wealthy Regency dandy, to help him. But murder and mayhem follow, and James Denis once more tries to recruit Lacey to help him with his underworld activities. This book introduces the characters of Lady Breckenridge and Grenville's irrepressible footmen, Matthias and Bartholomew.

Published 2004; 248 pages.

Rough week

 TGIF

A library book came up for me that I'd put on hold a LONG time ago. Currently reading THE TRUE LOVE EXPERIMENT by Christina Lauren. 2nd of DNADuo romance series.

Felicity “Fizzy” Chen is lost. Sure, she’s got an incredible career as a beloved romance novelist with a slew of bestsellers under her belt, but when she’s asked to give a commencement address, it hits her: she hasn’t been practicing what she’s preached. Fizzy hasn’t ever really been in love. Lust? Definitely. But that swoon-worthy, can’t-stop-thinking-about-him, all-encompassing feeling? Nope. Nothing. What happens when the optimism she’s spent her career encouraging in readers starts to feel like a lie? Connor Prince, documentary filmmaker and single father, loves his work in large part because it allows him to live near his daughter. But when his profit-minded boss orders him to create a reality TV show, putting his job on the line, Connor is out of his element. Desperate to find his romantic lead, a chance run-in with an exasperated Fizzy offers Connor the perfect solution. What if he could show the queen of romance herself falling head-over-heels for all the world to see? Fizzy gives him a hard pass—unless he agrees to her list of demands. When he says yes, and production on The True Love Experiment begins, Connor wonders if that perfect match will ever be in the cue cards for him, too.

Published 2023; 409 pages.

Crazy busy day with the snow storm. Not yesterday, when we were looking for jobs, today when one called in "cold".

 I'm ready for the weekend.

I've got a haircut tomorrow morning then sprints in the afternoon. I added my last skein of yarn to the afghan so I'll be working on that. Reading, napping, walking Keo. As close to nothing as possible.

Have a good day

Waiting on a Friday ...

 Thursday

I don't think I read or crochet a blessed thing yesterday. Just tired maybe?

Getting around should be easier today. It has snowed so there's better traction. It is very cold though. I'm hoping going home after work won't be as slow because I have sprints tonight.  And with sprints going on, I'll definitely be crocheting but I may watch some BookTube.

 Have a good day

Winter is here

 Wednesday.

It's been a day already. 22 degrees out. Power out at the house at 4:30 so no morning show on YouTube and had to wake up Steve to open the garage door for me. Slick roads in an unfamiliar pickup.

 Reading page count update:

10/22: 218

10/23: 168

10/24: 72

10/25:

10/26:

10/27:

10/28:

TOTAL: 458/1000

I didn't get a whole lot of reading done yesterday, as you can see. It usually happens that way in mid-week.  I don't have sprints tonight but I'll be doing much the same - crocheting and so forth. I'm about to add my last skein of yarn to this afghan - 7th if I remember right. I may actually get it done this weekend.

For being my very first one. Yeah. And then I'll be on to the next one as a Christmas gift. I'll have five maybe six weeks to complete it. I'm getting better at it so it should go quicker.

 Otherwise, just gonna hunker down.

 Have a good day

Hit the bunkers

 Tuesday.

Currently reading MURDER AT THE MILL by Irina Shapiro. 3rd of 13 in Redmond and Haze historical mystery series.

When a man’s naked corpse is found strapped to a waterwheel, newly appointed Inspector Haze is called upon to investigate the crime. With the help of American surgeon Captain Redmond, he delves into the life of Frank Darrow, a man who inspired such hatred, his mere death wasn’t enough to satisfy his killer. Finding few clues and no obvious motive for the murder, Redmond and Haze must peel away the layers of Frank Darrow’s relationships to get to the shocking truth, while also coming to terms with unexpected developments in their own lives.

Published 2020; 282 pages.

I finished DIVINE RIVALS by Rebecca Ross. 4 stars. Cliffhanger ending. The second book comes out just after Christmas.

I think I'll be listening to the audiobook of THE LEGEND OF CORINAIR by Ryk Brown. 3rd of 15 in The Frontiers Saga science fiction series.

A captain coming into his own…
A handful of refugees stranded on board…
A possible traitor in their midst…
A voyage into the territory of the very enemy that pursues them…
Sometimes legends become realities in unexpected ways. It seems that fate has the crew of the Aurora firmly in its clutches.

Published 2012; 282 pages. It's been on my TBR for quite a while.

Thrilled it's Monday

 Monday.

I DNF'd the Megan Goldin book I was looking forward to. The first book, NIGHT SWIM, was very good. The main character is an investigative crime podcaster. The first dealt with a trial and a cold case. I liked it a lot. This one, DARK CORNER, deals with a serial killer. I DNF'd at page 93. I'm just not in the reading mood to have those images.

I finished A GENTLEMAN FALLEN ON HARD TIMES by Grace Burrows. I gave it 5 stars. I very much enjoyed it.

Time for the October 1000 pages read challenge:

10/22: 218

10/23:

10/24:

10/25:

10/26:

10/27:

10/28:

TOTAL: 218/1000

I don't have sprints tonight. But I will keep listening to the audio of the fantasy I'm reading and keep crocheting. Shockingly, I may make my goal of finishing it by Halloween. I'm on the second-to-the-last skein.

The weather has turned cold. Winter is coming.

Have a good day

Much love,
