Hooray! It's the weekend!

TGIF

I turned off the light last night at about quarter to 11 but I finished the ILLUMINAE book.  Interesting mixture of HAL from 2001: A Space Odyssey with space opera, romance, zombies, hackers, political intrigue, snarkiness ... The second book of the trilogy (?) should be arriving today. I don't know if I'll read it right away or have something in between.

On the plus side, I'm in the mood to read.

And I have tons and tons to read.

For my reading goals for the year, I'm 3 behind schedule (according to Goodreads) to make my goal of 90 books read in 2017. In my defense, I've read a lot of BIG books lately. Maybe if I give up sleep....

And if I don't get stuck in a binge watch....

Maybe I'll get some reading in.

On Sunday is NCIS: Los Angeles "Golden Days":

A gold heist investigation partners the NCIS team with Hetty's former colleagues from the Vietnam War.

But I'll have to watch it the next day because of my Sunday meditation class.

Have a good weekend

Waiting for Friday

Last night's Arrow was good  -- setting things up for next week.

And it ended on a freaking cliffhanger.

I started a SUPER good book last night.

ILLUMINAE by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff. 1st of 2 in series. SFF and a mystery of sorts.

This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do. This afternoon, her planet was invaded. The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than a speck at the edge of the universe. Now with enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to evacuate with a hostile warship in hot pursuit. But their problems are just getting started. A plague has broken out and is mutating with terrifying results; the fleet’s AI may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a web of data to find the truth, it’s clear the only person who can help her is the ex-boyfriend she swore she’d never speak to again.

Published in 2015, it has 605 pages. Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, maps, files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more. It needs to be read in the book form (not Kindle) because the docs are recreated on the page. I love stuff like that.

Not much on TV tonight, maybe 60 Days In that I'll pretend to watch but really be reading. Though at 8 is a new episode of Chicago Med that I got hooked on recently. Bah.

"Deliver Us":

A complicated case centers on a sick family. Also, Dr. Charles asks Sarah to conduct his daughter's psych evaluation, Will and Dr. Manning spend more time together at work, and Dr. Choi puts on the pressure when a residency slot opens.

And the tie in to Arrow here is Dr. Rhodes (above) who was on the first season of Arrow as Tommy Merlyn. That's what got my attention to the medical show in the first place. Double bah.

Have a great day

Or dog. I could dog, too.

I'm currently reading MURDER ON FIFTH AVENUE by Victoria Thompson. 14th of 20 in series featuring Sarah Brandt, a midwife in turn-of-the-20th-century New York City.

Sarah Brandt’s family is one of the oldest in New York City, and her father, Felix Decker, takes his position in society very seriously. He still refuses to resign himself to his daughter being involved with an Irish Catholic police detective. But when a member of his private club—the very exclusive Knickerbocker—is murdered, Decker forms an uneasy alliance with Detective Sergeant Frank Malloy to solve the crime as discreetly as possible.Malloy soon discovers that despite his social standing, the deceased—Chilton Devries—was no gentleman. In fact, he’s left behind his own unofficial club of sorts, populated by everyone who despised him. As he and Sarah sort through the suspects, it becomes clear to her that her father is evaluating more than the detective’s investigative abilities, and that, on a personal level, there is much more at stake for Malloy than discovering who revoked Devries’ membership—permanently.

Published in 2012, it has 304 pages.

Let's see. What else ......Oh, yeah, well there's this:

ARROW IS BACK TONIGHT!

"Dangerous Liaisons":

Oliver, Team Arrow, ARGUS and the SCPD kick off a citywide manhunt for Adrian Chase. Meanwhile, Helix tells Felicity they have a way to find Chase, but they will need something big and illegal from her in return.
This is the beginning of the last five episodes of the season and the producers have promised that tonight and next week are BIG for Olicity shippers.

So that's what I'm doing tonight.

Exactly

Bah, I've got the intestinal bug thing again today. Home for half the day; chicken soup for lunch and probably dinner.

Good thing I made a big batch again last night. And I haven't chosen yet what's next to read. Too much to choose from but I don't know what mood I'm in.

And it frustrates me to no end. I'm in the mood to read ... but what? What?

No TV for me; I've got my meditation class tonight.

So that will take up most of my evening.

Have a good one

Monday?! No, really ... Monday?

I didn't go to my class on Saturday because I wasn't feeling well. I feel badly about it but oh well.

Better now. Slept most of Saturday so it was a REALLY short weekend.

I finished in the McIntosh book. I started and I'm just about done with GARDEN OF LAMENTATIONS by Deborah Crombie. 17th of 17 in series featuring Duncan Kincaid, a Scotland Yard superintendent, and D.I. Gemma James in London.

On a beautiful morning in mid-May, the body of a young woman is found in one of Notting Hill’s private gardens. To passersby, the pretty girl in the white dress looks as if she’s sleeping. But Reagan Keating has been murdered, and the lead detective, DI Kerry Boatman, turns to Gemma James for help. She and Gemma worked together on a previous investigation, and Gemma has a personal connection to the case: Reagan was the nanny of a child who attends the same dance studio as Toby, Gemma and Kincaid’s son. Kincaid finds himself plagued by disturbing questions about several previous—and seemingly unrelated—cases involving members of the force. Kincaid’s hunch turns to certainty when a Metropolitan Police officer close to him is brutally attacked. There’s a traitor in the ranks, and now Kincaid wonders if he can trust anyone.

Published in 2017, it has 432 pages. A pretty good procedural but Kincaid is seriously irritating me with his behavior throughout the whole book. Glad I'll be done with it soon.

I had my first face-to-face meditation class last night, meeting my fellow students. I'm hoping it will go well. I'm glad I'm taking my Tuesday night class as well -- different techniques, I think, will give me a bigger toolbox from which to draw.

Nothing on TV for me tonight though I'll watch Street Outlaws with Steve.

That's about it for today.

Friday, dude.

I've got a class starting on Sunday so I won't be watching NCIS: Los Angeles live but I'll catch up the next day. So I've got class on Tuesday and Sunday evenings. I won't be doing the Friday evening thing for a while.

NCIS: Los Angeles "Battle Scars":

Hetty's former Vietnam war colleagues partner with NCIS after a former Navy commander kidnaps a corrupt Veterans Affairs administrator who has been siphoning funds.
I've started binge watching Time Team. This is a UK series about a group of archaeologists who have 3 days to discover historical artifacts in different sites around Britain. Archeology!

History of the UK! The series had 20 SEASONS. It started in 1994. I've found the first ones on youtube.com. This is so right up my alley. I'm loving it.
Season 1 Episode 1: Athelney, Somerset
In this first ever episode of Time Team, Tony and the team travel to Athelney in Somerset to investigate a series of hills (once islands in a bog) that became Alfred The Great last defensive positions after a series of losses to invading Viking forces. It is also the place Alfred began the great rally that saw him re-conquer most Wessex and laid the foundations of the nation that was to become England

Season 1 Episode 2: Ribchester, Lancashire
Ribchester in Lancashire has been known for some time as a site of a Roman fort. The Time Team arrive in the town to answer two questions, one is to consolidate all the previous excavations on the site, and the second to define the outline of a possible older wooden fort that is thought to have been in the area.

Season 1 Episode 3: Much Wenlock, Shropshire
The Time Team go to the small town of Much Wenlock, after they receive a letter from a resident explains a recent excavation uncovered possibly the oldest house in the town. What they discover is the remains of an old Saxon village transitioning into a larger newer Norman settlement.
Season 1 Episode 4: Llangorse Lake, Powys
The Time Team travel to Brecon Beacons in Wales, they have come to investigate a small man-made island in Llangorse Lake. Locals tell many strange legends including hearing the sounds of Church bells echoing across the body of water at night. The Team want to know who built the island and try to find evidence to support the stories of it eventual fall into disuse.
I'm on episode 2 right now. Some of the later seasons are available on Amazon Instant via the Acorn Channel subscription -- shows from the UK which is also right up my alley.

It's a great dark somewhat rainy day today. Of course. On a Friday. Not a Saturday or Sunday. Bah.

Doing a seminar on crystals tomorrow for a couple hours. Otherwise it's the usual getting groceries, laundry, reading, napping, etc.

Have a good weekend, folks

Whyyyy isn't it the weekend yet?

Almost there. Almost there.

I really don't have much to say today.  Not really much of a post.

It's a mood thing, I think.

I'm continuing in the same two books. I didn't read a whole lot last night. Not much on TV but we'll probably watch 60 Days In.

Have a good day

Done with the day

Yeah.

And there is no Arrow on again tonight. You know what us sensible adults do then when we don't get what we want?

So I'm tired. I'm going to read or watch something on my Kindle Fire and go to bed. Cuddle with my dogs.

Have a good one

Much love,
