How about "Noooo" to Monday

 Monday.

I finished THE VILLA by Rachel Hawkins over the weekend. 4.5 stars. Told in dual time lines, I like that 1970s paralleling the historical Mary Shelley/Lord Byron weekend. The ending was uncomfortable-ish which made it less than a 5.

Currently reading AN UNEXPECTED PERIL by Deanna Raybourn. 6th of 8 in series featuring Veronica Speedwell and Stoker in 1880s London.

January 1889. As the newest member of the Curiosity Club—an elite society of brilliant, intrepid women—Veronica Speedwell is excited to put her many skills to good use. As she assembles a memorial exhibition for pioneering mountain climber Alice Baker-Greene, Veronica discovers evidence that the recent death was not a tragic climbing accident but murder. Veronica and her natural historian beau, Stoker, tell the patron of the exhibit, Princess Gisela of Alpenwald, of their findings. With Europe on the verge of war, Gisela's chancellor, Count von Rechstein, does not want to make waves—and before Veronica and Stoker can figure out their next move, the princess disappears. Having noted Veronica's resemblance to the princess, von Rechstein begs her to pose as Gisela for the sake of the peace treaty that brought the princess to England. Veronica reluctantly agrees to the scheme. She and Stoker must work together to keep the treaty intact while navigating unwelcome advances, assassination attempts, and Veronica's own family—the royalty who has never claimed her.

And on audiobook, I started  CAUGHT DEAD HANDED by Carol J. Perry. 1st of 13 in Witch City mystery series.

She's not a psychic--she just plays one on TV. Most folks associate the city of Salem, Massachusetts with witches, but for Lee Barrett, it's home. This October she's returned to her hometown--where her beloved Aunt Ibby still lives--to interview for a job as a reporter at WICH-TV. But the only opening is for a call-in psychic to host the late night horror movies. It seems the previous host, Ariel Constellation, never saw her own murder coming. Lee reluctantly takes the job, but when she starts seeing real events in the obsidian ball she's using as a prop, she wonders if she might really have psychic abilities. To make things even spookier, it's starting to look like Ariel may have been an actual practicing witch--especially when O'Ryan, the cat Lee and Aunt Ibby inherited from her, exhibits some strange powers of his own. With Halloween fast approaching, Lee must focus on unmasking a killer--or her career as a psychic may be very short lived. . .

Published 2014; 407 pages. This is for the scavenger hunt prompt, "cat on the cover".

Reading update:

The weekend was pretty good. I crocheted a lot.

And this is the first time I've stuck long enough with a project that I had to learn how to add more yarn when you've used up the first one. However, being such a wide afghan (oops) I've only completed seven and a half inches so far.

Much more crocheting in my future. In fact I brought it with me to work so I could maybe work on it during lunch after I walk Keo.

I don't have sprints tonight but I'll watch the one going on while listening to audiobook and working more on the afghan.

Have a good day

Much love,

PK the Bookeemonster
