Yep, that's the weekend

TGIF

Currently also reading EMPIRE OF SHADOWS by Jacquelyn Benson. 1st of 2 in Raiders of the Arcana series.

Nice Victorian ladies don’t run off to find legendary lost cities.
One trifling little arrest shouldn’t have cost Ellie Mallory her job, but it’s only the latest in a line of injustices facing any educated woman with archaeological ambitions. When Ellie stumbles across the map to a mysterious ancient city, she knows she’s holding her chance to revolutionize Pre-Colombian history. There’s just one teensy complication. A ruthless villain wants it, and Ellie is all that stands in his way. To race him to the ruins—and avoid being violently disposed of—she needs the help of maverick surveyor Adam Bates, a snake-wrangling rogue who can’t seem to keep his dratted shirt on. But there’s more than Ellie’s scholarly reputation (and life) on the line. Her enemies aren’t just looters. They’re after an arcane secret rumored to lie in the heart of the ruins, a mythical artifact with a power that could shake the world. Between stealing trousers, plummeting over waterfalls, and trying not to fall in love with her machete-wielding partner, will Ellie be able to stop the oracle of a lost empire from falling into the wrong hands?

Published 2024; 478 pages. This is not only for Midsummer HistMyst Readathon but also for scavenger hunt prompt "three word title."

Listening to FINDING MR. WRITE by Kelley Armstrong. Stand alone rom com.

Daphne McFadden is tired of rejection. After submitting her manuscript to dozens of agents, she's gotten rejection after rejection, and now it's time for something drastic. And so, Daphne submits her manuscript again… under a man's name. Imagine her surprise when it sells for big money at an auction and soon becomes a publicity darling. Only she needs a man to play her super macho alter ego Zane Remington. Enter Chris Stanton, who absolutely looks the part of a survivalist and has a talent for pressing her piss‑me‑off‑I‑dare‑you buttons while somehow being endearing at the same time. But Chris has a few secrets of his own, including the fact that he’s really an accountant who has no idea how to chop wood or paddle a canoe. When Daphne's book becomes a bestselling sensation and they're forced to go on tour together, Daphne finds herself wondering if this city‑boy geek is exactly what she needs to push her to claim her dreams.

Published 2024; 368 pages. Doing this as an audio.

Escape, escape

Thursday. Not quite there yet.

I didn't read very much last night....

I think for two reasons. I've been so looking forward to the Sherry Thomas book that I COULD inhale/binge it. BUT, I'm actually wanting to savor it.

And I was in a crochet mood so I worked on a Christmas afghan and watched some YouTube.

Sprints tonight. I could read ... I could crochet. I don't know.

Have a good day

Much love,

Power in my paws

Tuesday. New book release day.

Currently reading A RUSE OF SHADOWS by Sherry Thomas. 8th of 8 in series featuring Charlotte Holmes, a disgraced young gentlewoman solving cases under the pseudonym Sherlock Holmes, beginning in 1886 London

Charlotte’s success on the RMS Provence has afforded her a certain measure of time and assurance. Taking advantage of that, she has been busy, plotting to prise the man her sister loves from Moriarty’s iron grip. Disruption, however, comes from an unexpected quarter. Lord Bancroft Ashburton, disgraced and imprisoned as a result of Charlotte’s prior investigations, nevertheless manages to press Charlotte into service: Underwood, his most loyal henchman, is missing and Lord Bancroft wants Charlotte to find Underwood, dead or alive. But then Lord Bancroft himself turns up dead and Charlotte, more than anyone else, meets the trifecta criteria of motive, means, and opportunity. Never mind rescuing anyone else, with the law breathing down her neck, can Charlotte save herself from prosecution for murder?

Published 2024; 368 pages.

I've been looking forward to this book for a year. It is time.

I've got sprints tonight.

Have a good day

But as he digs deeper, every aspect of the case raises memories of a terrible event that Nate has tried his best to bury. Battling an aggressive prosecutor in court and a dogged reporter outside it, Nate fights to prove that his client’s brutal, bloody slaying of an evil victim was right. But when Nate’s own story is exposed, it threatens his client’s freedom … and Nate’s carefully constructed life. Can Nate fend off his own demons long enough to save his client?
