Tuesday. Back to work
I finished TRIPLE CROSS by Tom Bradby. 4 stars. For Spy vs Spy September.
I've started CITY SPIES: CITY OF THE DEAD by James Ponti. 4th of 6 in middle-grade spy series.
Codename Kathmandu, better known as Kat, loves logic and order, has a favorite eight-digit number, and can spot a pattern from a mile away. So when a series of cyberattacks hits key locations in London while the spies are testing security for the British Museum, it’s clear that Kat’s skill for finding reason in what seems like randomness makes her the perfect candidate to lead the job. And while the team follows the deciphered messages to Egypt and the ancient City of the Dead to discover who is behind the attacks and why, Kat soon realizes that there’s another layer to the mystery. With more players, more clues, and involving higher levels of British Intelligence than ever before, this mission is one of the most complex that the group has faced to date. And it’s also going to bring about a change to the City Spies…
Published 2023; 398 pages. Listening to the audio which is fantastic as always. For Spy vs Spy September.
I started PASSIONS IN DEATH by J.D. Robb. 59 of 59 in series featuring Eve Dallas, futuristic police procedural.
On a hot August night, Lt. Eve Dallas and her husband, Roarke, speed through the streets of Manhattan to the Down and Dirty club, where a joyful, boisterous pre-wedding girls’ night out has turned into a murder scene. One of the brides lies in a pool of blood, garroted in a private room where she was preparing a surprise for her fiancée—two scrimped and saved-for tickets to Hawaii. Despite the dozens of people present, useful witnesses are hard to come by. It all brings back some bad memories for Eve. In her uniform days, she’d suffered an assault in the very same room—but she’d been able to fight back and survive. She’d gotten justice. And now she needs to provide some for poor young Erin. Eve knows that the level of violence and the apparent premeditation involved suggest a volatile mix of hidden, heated passion and ice-cold calculation. This is a crime that can be countered only by hard detective work and relentless dedication—and Eve will not stop until she finds the killer who destroyed this couple’s dreams before the honeymoon even began…
Published 2024; 363 pages. Just eyeball reading this. I've not cared for the reader of the audios.
And I'm about to start THE MOUNTAINS WILD by Sarah Stewart Taylor. 1st of 4 in series featuring Maggie D’arcy, a homicide detective on Long Island, New York, returning to Dublin, Ireland, to search for her missing cousin.
Twenty-three years ago, Maggie D'arcy's family received a call from the Dublin police. Her cousin Erin has been missing for several days. Maggie herself spent weeks in Ireland, trying to track Erin's movements, working beside the police. But it was to no avail: no trace of her was ever found. The experience inspired Maggie to become a cop. Now, back on Long Island, more than 20 years have passed. Maggie is a detective and a divorced mother of a teenager. When the Gardaí call to say that Erin's scarf has been found and another young woman has gone missing, Maggie returns to Ireland, awakening all the complicated feelings from the first trip. The despair and frustration of not knowing what happened to Erin. Her attraction to Erin's coworker, now a professor, who never fully explained their relationship. And her determination to solve the case, once and for all.
Published 2020; 416 pages. Library book/audio. I was looking for a procedural to listen to in the evenings while I crochet.
Next up, after I finish CITY SPIES, is the new release by David Weber & Richard fox, REBEL. In other news, I DNFed the vampire book, BLESS YOUR HEART. Just not for me.
I got going on the re-do of the wedding bedspread. The wedding is October 19th. I'm figuring 2 cakes of yarn a week to get it done for the 12 cakes I have. I'm about to finish the second of them this evening.
Sprints tonight. Steve has board meeting. Much crocheting to be done. I'm technically a little ahead of schedule but during the work week, I'm sure I won't do as well as I did this past weekend.
Have a good day
Much love,
PK the Bookeemonster
