PK'S NOTE: This is such an invasion of privacy. Work has no business doing this and then to PAY A PENALTY TO THE EMPLOYER???!!!

ObamaCare weighs in: CVS tells employees to reveal personal health info -- or pay up

Looks like ObamaCare may be rearing its head. In the wake of the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, CVS is telling its employees they need to reveal their height, weight, body fat percent and other personal information for health insurance purposes.

The Rhode Island-based company, which employs around 200,000 individuals, is telling workers who use its health insurance they need to have a wellness review done -- or pay up.

CVS says it will pay for the health reviews and the information will go to a third party administrator of CVS's benefits, not CVS itself.  According to the company, CVS bosses will not be able to access their employees' health records.

The idea is to incentivize healthy living. CVS says the idea is nothing new.

"The idea of an employee wellness plan is perfectly legal under the ADA. Courts held up these plans," said Joshua Kersey, a Tampa labor attorney. He says with "Obamacare" looming in 2014, practices like this wellness review are likely to become more common, because a lot of employers are expecting to pay more for their workers' health insurance.

"The more money it's going to save the employer, the more incentive the employer has to affect these types of programs," he said.

In CVS's case, workers not comfortable getting the review done will have to pay a $600 annual penalty.

"It is voluntary because you're welcome to get healthcare through someone else," he said.

In a statement, CVS says it's implemented the program to try and keep employees as healthy as possible, and help them manage their costs.

Washington Post Despairs Parents of Toddlers Forced to Choose Between Food and....Tattoos

A lengthy – 3,500 word – anguished expose on the front page of Sunday’s Washington Post, Hungering for a new month to begin,” about how people in Woonsocket, Rhode Island race to the grocery stores on the first of the month to spend their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) payment, yet run out of food long before the month ends, didn’t offer a word about President Obama’s responsibility for the poor economy.

Deep in it, however, reporter Eli Saslow undermined his case when he sympathetically cited “a series of exhausting, fractional decisions” a couple with two toddlers face over having to choose between food “or the $75 they owed the tattoo parlor.”
Saslow failed to explain why the couple, supposedly forced to consider a trip across town to pay 70 cents less for a gallon of milk, decided to get a tattoo (or pay for cell phones) when they can’t afford to feed their kids from the presumably inadequate $518 a month SNAP giveaway:
For the past three years, the Ortizes’ lives had unfolded in a series of exhausting, fractional decisions. Was it better to eat the string cheese now or to save it? To buy milk for $3.80 nearby or for $3.10 across town? Was it better to pay down the $600 they owed the landlord, or the $110 they owed for their cellphones, or the $75 they owed the tattoo parlor, or the $840 they owed the electric company?
“Every four weeks, a Rhode Island town’s economy booms as residents use food stamp money to stock up. But full shelves inevitably give way to days of want,” read the subhead for the plaintive March 17 article.

Saslow summarized the sad state of the economy without considering whether or not Obama administration policies might have exacerbated the situation, or whether Obama policies have encouraged the dependence on government in the state which voted overwhelmingly for Obama:
...Three years into an economic recovery, this is the lasting scar of collapse: a federal program that began as a last resort for a few million hungry people has grown into an economic lifeline for entire towns. Spending on SNAP has doubled in the past four years and tripled in the past decade, surpassing $78 billion last year. A record 47 million Americans receive the benefit — including 13,752 in Woonsocket, one-third of the town’s population, where the first of each month now reveals twin shortcomings of the U.S. economy:

So many people are forced to rely on government support.

The government is forced to support so many people.
Saslow’s look at the plight of the Ortiz family:
....The last meal of the month was almost always their worst.

Rebecka and Jourie Ortiz usually ran out of milk first, after about three weeks. Next went juice, fresh produce, cereal, meat and eggs. By the 27th or 28th, Rebecka, 21, was often making a dish she referred to in front of the kids as “rice-a-roni,” even though she and Jourie called it “rice-a-whatever.” It was boiled noodles with canned vegetables and beans. “Enough salt and hot sauce can make anything good,” she said.

Late on Feb. 28, Rebecka came home to their two-bedroom apartment to make a snack for her daughters, ages 1 and 3. The kitchen was the biggest room in their apartment, with a stove that doubled as a heater and a floral wall hanging bought at the dollar store that read: “All things are possible if you believe!” She opened the refrigerator. Its top shelf had been duct-taped and its cracked bottom shelf had been covered with a towel. Only a few jars of jelly, iced tea, rotten vegetables and some string cheese remained in between.

They had been living together since Rebecka became pregnant during their senior year of high school, long enough to experience Woonsocket’s version of recession and recovery. Jourie had lost his job at a pharmacy late in 2010 because of downsizing, and Rebecka had lost hers in fast food for the same reason a few months later. They had filled out a one-page application for SNAP and been accepted on Oct. 11, 2011, awarded $518 for a family of four, to be delivered on the first of every month. “Check Day!” they had begun calling it. They had applied for jobs until finally, late in 2012, they had both been hired for the only work high school graduates were finding in a low-wage recovery: part time at a nearby supermarket, the nicest one in the area, a two-story Stop & Shop across the Massachusetts line.

She made $8 an hour, and he earned $9. She worked days in produce, and he worked nights as a stocker. Their combined monthly income of $1,700 was still near the poverty line, and they still qualified for SNAP.

Rebecka had read once that nobody starved to death in America, and she believed that was true. But she had also read that the average monthly SNAP benefit lasted a family 17 days, and she knew from personal experience the anxiety headaches that came at the end of every month, when their SNAP money had run out, their bank account was empty and she was left to ply Woonsocket’s circuit of emergency church food pantries. Saint Agatha’s on Mondays. All Saints’s on Tuesdays. Saint Charles’s on Thursdays, where the pantry opened at 10 a.m. but the line of regulars began forming at 6....

PK'S NOTE: OMG. Unbelievable. Really? How are students supposed to learn how to better themselves? How are they supposed to make it in the real world if they don't learn this kind of thing? We're doomed.

Massachusetts principal calls off Honors Night because it could be 'devastating' to students who missed mark

A Massachusetts principal has been criticized for canceling his school's Honors Night, saying it could be 'devastating' to the students who worked hard, but fell short of the grades.

MyFoxBoston.com reports that David Fabrizio, principal of Ipswich Middle School, notified parents last week of his plan to eliminate the event.

"The Honors Night, which can be a great sense of pride for the recipients' families, can also be devastating to a child who has worked extremely hard in a difficult class but who, despite growth, has not been able to maintain a high grade-point average," Fabrizio penned in his first letter to parents, the station reported.
Fabrizio also said he decided to make the change because academic success can be influenced by the amount of support a student  receives at home and not all students receive the same level of emotional and academic support at home.

Some parents disagree with his philosophy.

"It's been a tradition in Ipswich, and you're very proud as a parent to see your child, as well as some of the other children who made, really, some great efforts," Dave Morin, a parent, told the station.

Fabrizio says he plans to include the honors ceremony with a previously planned end of the year assembly where students will be recognized in front of the entire student body.

Morning Bell: Obama Doctrine on Display in the Middle East

President Obama’s car came to a halt in Israel yesterday, reportedly because it had been filled with the wrong kind of gas.

“This is a metaphor for his Middle East policy—he’s been running on the wrong kind of fuel,” said Heritage expert James Phillips.

The Obama Doctrine—the President’s approach to foreign policy—has been one of talks, sanctions, and seeking international agreements. But his tactics have led to some sorry outcomes. As Heritage’s Luke Coffey put it, “After almost four years of his presidency, not only is America’s standing in the world weaker; the world is also more dangerous than before.”

In sum, the Obama Doctrine is a policy of leading from behind in global affairs, presiding over dangerous defense cuts that leave America weaker in a more dangerous world, and placing “hope” above reality when dealing with countries like Russia, Iran, China, and North Korea—each presenting unique threats to America’s interests.
In his first visit to Israel as President, Obama is attempting to smooth things over with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after some tense years. Obama said yesterday, "The United States is proud to stand with you as your strongest ally and your greatest friend." But differences remain between Obama and Netanyahu on the best way to keep Iran from getting a nuclear weapon—a threat to both Israel and the United States.

Netanyahu has reinforced Israel’s resolve to protect itself if threatened, and the U.S. should stand firmly behind him.

Today, Obama will take his case to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and directly to the Israeli people with a speech in Jerusalem.

For today’s meeting, Phillips recommends:
During his visit to Ramallah, President Obama should encourage Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to resume direct negotiations with Israel and disabuse him of the notion that he can sit back and wait for Washington to deliver Israeli concessions.

Obama should also warn Abbas against forming a government of national unity with Hamas, which is implacably committed to Israel’s destruction. Such a union would explode any chances for peace for the foreseeable future.
Tomorrow, Obama will visit Jordan, which is feeling the effects of the crisis in Syria. Phillips explains that “Jordan’s security is also threatened by Islamist extremists returning from fighting in Syria who have been emboldened by the growing influence there of al-Qaeda and other Islamist militants.”

Karl Rove and Republican Decline

Not since 1984 and the landslide victory of Ronald Reagan have the Republicans had a more winnable election than the 2012 presidential election. Yet the Republican Establishment managed to lose to the worst and most vulnerable President in modern history, with historically poor approval ratings, unemployment averaging over 8.7% during his entire first term, a stagnant economy and someone who ran the smallest and most absurd of all possible re-election campaigns.

Why and how did this happen?  In his new book WTF? How Karl Rove and the Establishment Lost...Again, C. Edmund Wright, a frequent contributor to the American Thinker website and senior consultant to the Winning Our Future Super PAC in 2012, clearly and cogently lays out not only the factors that resulted in the ignominious defeat of Mitt Romney, but the historical reasons behind the rise and fall of the Republican Establishment and it's consultant class.

Mr. Wright accurately points out that the loss in 2012 had been in the works since 1992.  Why?  Primarily because this is when the establishment, made up of career politicians, deep pocket "country-club" Republicans, a newly emerging political consultant coterie, and an incestuous lobbyist cabal, abandoned Ronal Reagan and what he stood for.   More telling was the unprecedented success in 1992 and 1994 of a third party candidate, Ross Perot, whose campaign was based on overturning the status quo in both parties, but particularly the Republican Party.  Yet this lesson was lost on the Establishment hierarchy as they grew more entrenched in their make believe world.
It is not a coincidence that since the presidential election in 1988 (which was in reality a vote for a Reagan third term) in which George H.W. Bush won 426 electoral votes, the Republicans have lost 4 out of 6 presidential elections and have not been able to get beyond 286 electoral votes (2004).

Per Mr. Wright:
This current group of leaders in the [Establishment] now controls the main messaging outlets for Republican candidates and their top Super PACS.  Never has a group of scared party apparatchiks been so out of touch with the base of their party, not to mention the truth about the history and greatness of America, as these people are today.
Rove certainly epitomizes this current group, and he controls more levers of power, influence, and money than any other single person.  His fingerprints are all over the Party Establishment mess, as well as their estrangement from the rest of the country (and reality).
More damning, Rove is largely responsible for the fact that voters still blame Bush for the economy and still give no credit to Bush and Cheney for the eventual death of bin Laden.  Rove's previous strategies can also be linked to the belief that the Hurricane Katrina response, dominated by Democrats and bureaucrats, was somehow a systemic Republican management problem.  As 2012 played out and voters believed all these fictions, they naturally concluded that Obama was the man to save the economy, restore America's place in the world, and to save New Jersey and New York from Sandy's damage.
The mindset of the Republican Establishment is that elections are won in the mushy middle of the electorate and thus the message of any Republican candidate should be geared to this group -- which therefore requires an equally mushy campaign devoid of any so-called "hard-edged" policy or election tactics.   That the other side can do or say anything with impunity is never challenged as that might alienate the moderate or independent voters.

Mr. Wright thoroughly explores not only this ill-conceived mindset but the impact of the media and the messaging since 1992.   He goes into great detail in the post-mortem of the disastrous Mitt Romney campaign strategy and failure of the independent Super PACS to blunt the devious, dishonest and calculating campaign of the Obama cabal.

But no analysis of this nature would be complete without a roadmap to not only purge the Republican Party of this self-centered and myopic Establishment but how to win upcoming elections and recapture the heights scaled by Ronald Reagan in the 1980's.  Mr. Wright accurately points out that there is no time for a third party as the damage inflicted by Barack Obama and his fellow travelers will soon metastasize into an inoperable cancer that will ultimately destroy the country.   The steps laid out by Mr. Wright are spot on and should be considered and acted upon by all Republicans running for office in 2014 and 2016.

This is a must read for all to understand what happened in 2012 and why but more importantly how to avoid a repeat.

Big Sis Refuses To Answer Congress On Bullet Purchases

Speaking at CPAC with Infowars and We Are Change reporter, Luke Rudkowski, Congressman Timothy Huelscamp revealed this week that the Department of Homeland Security has refused to answer questions from “multiple” members of Congress regarding its recent purchase of huge amounts of weapons and ammunition.

“They have no answer for that question. They refuse to answer to answer that,” Huelscamp said.
“I’ve got a list of various questions of agencies about multiple things. Far from being the most transparent administration in the world, they are the most closed and opaque,” the Congressman added.

“They refuse to let us know what is going on, so I don’t really have an answer for that. Multiple members of Congress are asking those questions,” he added.

“It comes down to during the budget process, during the appropriations process, are we willing to hold DHS’s feet to the fire?”

“We’re going to find out… I say we don’t fund them ’til we get an answer. Those type of things really challenge Americans. They are worried about this administration,” Huelscamp urged.

Citizen Tells Gun-grabbers: You Are “Coloring Outside the Lines of Constitutional Parameters”

On March 14, Connecticut resident Mark Steed delivered an articulate response to the state legislature’s plan to roll back the Second Amendment.

“This is the third day I’ve taken off of work to come here to, like so many of the rest of us, to plead with you for us to keep our guns because of some wing-nut in Newtown, Connecticut,” the Vernon, Connecticut, resident said. “If that isn’t inherently wrong, I don’t know what is. That these bills are even in proposed form is scary enough. That any of you could possibly be undecided is scary enough. What are you looking at?”

He then proceeded to inform state officials what they are looking at – the dismantlement of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights under the irrational rubric of “common sense” and “gun safety,” two highly misleading catchwords currently used by government and its corporate media to cover the attack on the cornerstone of the Bill of Rights, the Second Amendment.

“Adam Lanza commits a crime and I’m here to grovel and plead for my rights?” an outraged Steed said.
Connecticut officialdom went on to ignore Mr. Steed’s argument. On March 18 an advisory panel convened to make proposals that if implemented will destroy Second Amendment rights in the state. The recommendations include required registration of all guns and mandatory background checks for all buyers.
The Sandy Hook Advisory Commission has forwarded the recommendations to Connecticut’s governor, Dannel Malloy. The state currently has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country.

“The reason that your jobs are becoming so difficult is because you’re coloring outside the lines of constitutional parameters,” Steed told the officials. “That’s the bottom line. You are trying to marriage up public safety with constitutional rights. The Constitution did not guarantee public safety, it guaranteed liberty. And sometimes what comes with liberty is tragedy, unfortunately.”

Why Is The World Economy Doomed? The Global Financial Pyramid Scheme By The Numbers

Why is the global economy in so much trouble?  How can so many people be so absolutely certain that the world financial system is going to crash?  Well, the truth is that when you take a look at the cold, hard numbers it is not difficult to see why the global financial pyramid scheme is destined to fail.  In the United States today, there is approximately 56 trillion dollars of total debt in our financial system, but there is only about 9 trillion dollars in our bank accounts.  So you could take every single penny out of the banks, multiply it by six, and you still would not have enough money to pay off all of our debts.  Overall, there is about 190 trillion dollars of total debt on the planet.  But global GDP is only about 70 trillion dollars.  And the total notional value of all derivatives around the globe is somewhere between 600 trillion and 1500 trillion dollars.  So we have a gigantic problem on our hands.  The global financial system is a very shaky house of cards that has been constructed on a foundation of debt, leverage and incredibly risky derivatives.  We are living in the greatest financial bubble in world history, and it isn’t going to take much to topple the entire thing.  And when it falls, it is going to be the largest financial disaster in the history of the planet.

The global financial system is more interconnected today than ever before, and a crisis at one major bank or in one area of the world can spread at lightning speed.  As I wrote about yesterday, the entire European banking system is leveraged 26 to 1 at this point.  A decline in asset values of just 4 percent would totally wipe out the equity of many of those banks, and once a financial panic begins we could potentially see major financial institutions start to go down like dominoes.

We got a small taste of what that is like back in 2008, and it is inevitable that it will happen again.
Anyone that would tell you that the current global financial system is sustainable does not know what they are talking about.  Just look at the numbers that I have posted below.

The following is the global financial pyramid scheme by the numbers…

-$9,283,000,000,000 – The total amount of all bank deposits in the United States.  The FDIC has just 25 billion dollars in the deposit insurance fund that is supposed to “guarantee” those deposits.  In other words, the ratio of total bank deposits to insurance fund money is more than 371 to 1.

-$10,012,800,000,000 – The total amount of mortgage debt in the United States.  As you can see, you could take every penny out of every bank account in America and it still would not cover it.

-$10,409,500,000,000 – The M2 money supply in the United States.  This is probably the most commonly used measure of the total amount of money in the U.S. economy.

-$15,094,000,000,000 – U.S. GDP.  It is a measure of all economic activity in the United States for a single year.

-$16,749,269,587,407.53 – The size of the U.S. national debt.  It has grown by more than 10 trillion dollars over the past ten years.

-$32,000,000,000,000 – The total amount of money that the global elite have stashed in offshore banks (that we know about).

-$50,230,844,000,000 – The total amount of government debt in the world.

-$56,280,790,000,000 – The total amount of debt (government, corporate, consumer, etc.) in the U.S. financial system.

-$61,000,000,000,000 – The combined total assets of the 50 largest banks in the world.

-$70,000,000,000,000 – The approximate size of total world GDP.

-$190,000,000,000,000 – The approximate size of the total amount of debt in the entire world.  It has nearly doubled in size over the past decade.

-$212,525,587,000,000 – According to the U.S. government, this is the notional value of the derivatives that are being held by the top 25 banks in the United States.  But those banks only have total assets of about 8.9 trillion dollars combined.  In other words, the exposure of our largest banks to derivatives outweighs their total assets by a ratio of about 24 to 1.

-$600,000,000,000,000 to $1,500,000,000,000,000 – The estimates of the total notional value of all global derivatives generally fall within this range.  At the high end of the range, the ratio of derivatives to global GDP is more than 21 to 1.

Are you starting to get the picture?

Every single day, the total amount of debt will continue to grow faster than the total amount of money until the day that this bubble bursts.

What we witnessed back in 2008 was just a little “hiccup” in the system.  It caused the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression, but global financial authorities were able to get things stabilized.
Next time it won’t be so easy.

The next wave of the economic collapse is quickly approaching.  A full-blown economic depression has already started in southern Europe.  Unemployment is at record highs and economic activity is contracting rapidly.

The major offshore banking centers in Cyprus are on the verge of collapsing.  It was just announced that they will now be closed until Tuesday, but nobody really knows for sure when they will be allowed to reopen.  And there is already talk that when they do reopen that there will be strict limits on how much money people can take out.

And now the IMF is warning that the three biggest banks in Slovenia are failing and that a billion euros will be needed to bail them out.

The dominoes are starting to tumble, and the United States won’t be immune.  In fact, the greatest financial problems that the United States has ever seen are on the horizon.

But you can just have faith that Ben Bernanke, Barack Obama and the U.S. Congress know exactly what they are doing and will be able to save us from the coming financial collapse if you want.

The mainstream media will provide you with all of the positive economic news that you could possibly want.  They are giddy about the fact that the Dow keeps hitting all-time highs and they would have us all believe that we are in the midst of a robust economic recovery.  You can listen to them if you want to.

But when you are tempted to believe that everything is going to be “okay” somehow, just go back and look at the numbers there were posted above one more time.

There is no way that the global financial pyramid scheme is going to be able to hold up for too much longer.  At some point it is going to totally collapse.  When that happens, will you be ready?

Quiz Given Fifth-Grader Blames US for 9/11 Attacks, Texas Mother Claims

A Texas mother is outraged by a school quiz given to her son that seemingly blames the United States for the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people.

Kara Sands posted the test her son received in fifth grade at the Flour Bluff Independent School District in September on her Facebook page, which attracted more than 1,600 users in support of her concerns. Sands told KRISTV.com that she was most dismayed by a question that asked why the U.S. may be a target for terrorism. Her son chose the correct answer to the test that covered material from a video students watched in class: “Decisions we made in the United States have had negative effects on people elsewhere.”

"I'm not going to justify radical terrorists by saying we did anything to deserve that; over 3,000 people died," Sands told the station.

Sands later met with the school’s principal, her son’s teacher and contacted the video’s distributor, Safari Montage, whose representatives stand behind the video but have already changed the corresponding quiz.
School officials said Safari Montage representatives apologized for the wording of the question, saying it was not their intent to blame the United States for the terror attacks.

“In fact, the video was generated to convey a patriotic message, explaining the events of 911 [sic] and the way we memorialize it,” the statement released on Tuesday read.

Copies of the video are available to be viewed by parents, the statement continued.Sands, meanwhile, plans to bring up her concerns during the next school board meeting on March 28.

"When I teach my children that you have to work hard and you have to earn a living and they go to school and learn something different, I absolutely take issue with that," she said.

Professor Makes Students “Stomp on Jesus”

A Florida Atlantic University student said he was punished after he refused a professor’s directive to stomp on a piece of paper with the word “Jesus” written on it. The university, meanwhile, is defending the assignment as a lesson in debate.

“I’m not going to be sitting in a class having my religious rights desecrated,” student Ryan Rotela told television station WPEC. “I truly see this as I’m being punished.”

Rotela, who is a devout Mormon, said the instructor in his Intercultural Communications class told the students to write the name “Jesus” on a sheet of paper. Then, they were told to put the paper on the floor.
“He had us all stand up and he said ‘Stomp on it,’” Rotela said. “I picked up the paper from the floor and put it right back on the table.

The young college student told the instructor, Deandre Poole, that the assignment was insulting and offensive.

“I said to the professor, ‘With all due respect to your authority as a professor, I do not believe what you told us to do was appropriate,’” Rotela said. ‘I believe it was unprofessional and I was deeply offended by what you told me to do.’”

Rotela took his concerns to Poole’s supervisor – where he was promptly suspended from the class.

Poole did not return calls seeking comment. According to his university profile, he has a PhD from Howard University and is authoring a book titled, “Obamamania: The Rise of a Mythical Hero.”

A university spokesperson told they could not comment about Rotela’s case due to student privacy laws.
However, the university is defending the instructor’s assignment to stomp on the name of Jesus.

“As with any academic lesson, the exercise was meant to encourage students to view issues from many perspectives, in direct relation with the course objectives,” said Noemi Marin, the university’s director of the school of communication and multimedia studies.

“While at times the topics discussed may be sensitive, a university environment is a venue for such dialogue and debate,” Marin added.

The lesson on bashing the name of Christ is included in a textbook titled, “Intercultural Communication: A Contextual Approach, 5th Edition.”

Fox News obtained a synopsis of the lesson that got Rotela in trouble.

“Have the students write the name JESUS in big letters on a piece of paper,” the lesson reads. “Ask the students to stand up and put the paper on the floor in front of them with the name facing up. Ask the students to think about it for a moment. After a brief period of silence instruct them to step on the paper. Most will hesitate. Ask why they can’t step on the paper. Discuss the importance of symbols in culture.”

The university did not explain why students were only instructed to write the name of Jesus – and not the name of Mohammed or another religious figure.

Rotela said the idea of stomping on the name of Jesus was beyond his comprehension.

“Any time you stomp on something it shows you believe that it has no value,” he told the television station. “If you were to stomp on the word Jesus – it says the word has no value.”
