My mood? Really.

Not a happy camper. Desk duty. Hot. Not much sleep.

Hat trick.

Just tryin' to sleep here

Monday. Again.

Too hot outside. Again.

Didn't sleep well last night.

Crisis with the new phones at work right away so I was talking with tech support for an hour getting it resolved.

So I'm just going to be quiet the rest of the day and listen to things that make me happy. So there.

See you tomorrow.

Much love,

BELLY FLOP!

About to complete my re-watch of NCIS: Los Angeles. Time to go back to Supernatural? We'll see.

We're heading into HOT HOT HOT weather, 90s and 100s. Blech Blech Blech.

Steve has a gun class to coach tomorrow... in the heat all day. I'll be inside doing the weekend chores and hanging out with the boys. We don't have AC in the house so we'll be doing that hanging in the basement.

 Have a great weekend, all.

Much love,

How'd they get in my back yard?

About to start reading DECEPTIONS by Kelley Armstrong. This is 3rd of 3 in the Cainsville series. Here's a description:
Olivia Taylor Jones’s life has exploded. She’s discovered she is not only adopted, but her real parents are convicted serial killers. Fleeing the media frenzy, she took refuge in the oddly secluded town of Cainsville. She has since solved the town’s mysteries and finds herself not only the target of its secretive elders but also her stalker ex-fiancĂ©. Visions continue to haunt her: particularly a little blond girl in a green sundress who insists she has an important message for Olivia, one that may help her balance the light and darkness within herself. Death stalks both Olivia and the two men most important to her, as she desperately searches to understand whether ancient scripts are dictating the triangle that connects them. Will darkness prevail, or does Olivia have the power to prevent a tragic fate?

To be published in August 2015, I've got an advanced reading copy through the publisher. It has 464 pages.

Love hurts .... the ears mostly ...

Coming to the end of Season 5 of my re-watch of NCIS: LA. Season 5 is THE BEST.  The episode entitled "Three Hearts" completes the Deeks/Kensi love story arc (until the Christmas episode of Season 6).

In "Three Hearts," Kensi is back in the field, at last back with her partner Deeks, after being separated for five months. They are assigned to interrogate an agent who has probably been compromised in his latest assignment, a master manipulator, lost in his deep cover ops, telling story after story. He says at one point:
Everybody has got three hearts. The first heart, that's the one you show to strangers. The second heart, only your family gets to see that; your family and the person put on this earth to walk by your side, your soul mate. But that third heart is the thing. Never let anyone see it. There's too much truth inside; too much risk. She saw yours, didn't she. Ah damn, brother, this is not going to end well.

This case makes Deeks question what they should do about their "thing." Deeks is always the one to push their relationship but he’s also scared, very scared, to lose everything now that they just got it back, even more than before -- he knows the loss now. After the interrogation of the agent, who probed them a little too much....
"....ever see the way she looks at you when you fidget with your hair? Ever see how he gets stronger just by hearing the sound of your voice?
....they had a conversation about consequences.
K: Whatever happened between him and Olivia has nothing to do with us.
D: Right. He gets too close to her on the job, things turn personal when they should stay professional and he gets burned.
K: He gets burned.We didn't.
D:  Not yet. You know what it is? I kept thinking that could be me some day on his side of the table one day.
K: Deeks, that's the game he was running, that's exactly how he wanted you to feel.
D: I get that. But it doesn't mean it's not true.
K: And I would never let that happen to you.
D: Right. Only problem being that you would be the reason it would happen in the first place.

At the end of the episode, Deeks makes the tough decision for the both of them -- putting their romantic relationship on hold. Lots of symbolism in the next few exchanges.

Deeks gives Kensi's knife back (long story - sometimes a knife isn't just a knife) but this was signalling stopping the romance.

Kensi’s face when he did it was heartbreaking - she was thinking it was a breakup ... until Deeks says (more symbolism) his line about racoons mating for life. He’s not giving up on them, but everything is a mess right now, and they need time. There is hope and she then decides to make a move to say that she too is still in it with him long term.

More symbolism: she uses the knife to cut open the box and walks out with a smile.

A little history on the box: it showed up in Season 4 as a late birthday present: she had "decided to get him something that he's always wanted - more than anything else in the world". Deeks never opened it in all that time because "I mean, life doesn't get any better than this moment right now because everything I've ever wanted is inside this box, right? There's no real reason to open it then, is there." And it sat unopened (through 27 more episodes, through his torture and PTSD, through their one night together, through her being sent to Afghanistan therefore being separated for five months and her being a prisoner of war and rescued -- they've had a tough year). Now he looks into the box Kensi just cut open.

Inside ... is another box. He grins. (symbolism! Second heart).

And the episode ends with Hetty and Granger observing them:

G: The beginning of the end?
H: The end of the beginning.

Ha! Love it.

This is why I can't get back to books yet.

Much love,

Sexy ... one eye at a time

I've finally got an eye appointment today after waiting three months. Uff da. Definitely needed. And I may look into getting new frames, we'll see.

I'm in the middle of season 5 of the re-watch of NCIS: LA. Some of the best episodes, including The Frozen Lake where partner Deeks and Kensi struggle with the morning after:

And how do you cross a frozen lake (analogy of their love story)? Here's some advice from Deek's Gurkha friend:

And then Kensi was sent to Afghanistan that same night. Told ya I'm a sucker for love separated.

OK, gotta go.

Much love,

Organic cookie disposal unit

Currently reading COUNTDOWN CITY by Ben H. Winters. This is 2nd of 3 featuring Hank Palace, a police detective living under the threat of an impending asteroid collision, in Concord, New Hampshire. Here's a description:
There are just 77 days before a deadly asteroid collides with Earth, and Detective Palace is out of a job. With the Concord police force operating under the auspices of the U.S. Justice Department, Hank's days of solving crimes are over...until a woman from his past begs for help finding her missing husband. Brett Cavatone disappeared without a trace—an easy feat in a world with no phones, no cars, and no way to tell whether someone’s gone “bucket list” or just gone. With society falling to shambles, Hank pieces together what few clues he can, on a search that leads him from a college-campus-turned-anarchist-encampment to a crumbling coastal landscape where anti-immigrant militia fend off “impact zone” refugees.
Published 2013, it has 233 pages. Love the concept.  This is a digital loan from the library.

I'm in season 5 of my rewatch of NCIS: Los Angeles.

This is the best season. Ever. Deeks recovering from PTSD, Deeks and Kensi having a night and being separated for five months. Kensi sent to Afghanistan, captured, and rescued.

I made it through the gun tournament on Saturday. Steve actually started to mow the back yard.

I know!

I watched the first episode of Masterpiece Theater's Poldark last night.

This was a HUGE miniseries in the 70s and this remake was a big hit in the UK when it aired earlier. Now the US has it.

You've got to get me out this

So tomorrow I'll be working the gun tournament. All day. There is no escape though I will be looking for that rescue copter ... hint, hint.

Random thoughts:

I'm totally addicted to Spicy Sweet Chili sunflower seeds:

Our new phone system's ringtone sounds like a cellphone underwater in a fish tank.

I'm in season 4 of my re-watch of NCIS: Los Angeles.

Allergies today are driving my eyes crazy. I should wear an eyepatch over my left one because it's burning but then I'd look like a pirate.

And it's not even Talk Like A Pirate Day (September 19th!).

When the receptionist forgets to put the coffee pot in the maker and it's on auto ... it makes a huge mess.

This is the actual photo. It was way worse. And I'm the first one in in the morning so I had to clean it all up. Not fun.

See ya Monday!

Dogs and Internet - No such thing as too fast

We got new phones systems at work today. The old phones were so old we couldn't find bandaids for them anymore so it was definitely time. But there will be a learning curve with them.  Along with the phones, our Internet connection was also improved a gajillion times. Woot!

There is never too fast. It is BLAZING.

Hoping Steve will mow the back yard tonight. (fingers crossed)

Not an actual photo of our yard ... but it could be.

Much love,

Catch a wave and you're sitting on top of the world....

I've been trying to stay up later in the evenings instead of my usual wanting to turn out the lights by 9. I've been doing pretty good -- due to my addiction to NCIS-LA

See how I snuck in that photo opportunity? I'm sneaky like that.

But the last couple nights, I've been zonk city.

I mean hard sleeping last night -- I was only up once. It's usually a couple more times than that.

Pretty amazing, this sleep thing. Great invention.

Once again Steve has volunteered me to help out with a gun event on Saturday. Sigh. All day. Sigh.

Have a great Wednesday!

Much love,
PK the Bookeemonster

No WAY! Get outta town!

Vengeance is mine. One of our installers over the past few months has been trying to quietly creep up to my door and jump out at me to scare me in my office .... all in fun. And he rarely succeeds because I'm a Former Babysitter (copyright pending). I do not show fear easily nor am I ticklish. Comes with the job and the babysitting credentials. Kevin does sometimes make me jump ... on rare occasions. Very rare. But I got him back yesterday. He jumped out and surprised me but I was armed: I had a long-range (38-feet), high-powered water gun and got him good.

I had it at the ready for two weeks and even had to bait the trap to get him to act more quickly and now I expect some form of retaliation in my future. And I must plan my next chess move.

Not much else going on in the realm. Work, sleep, computer-ing. Repeat.

Slipping in a Densi eye-roll photo:

I'm sneaky like that.

Much love,

Monday? I disapprove.... Strongly.

All right. I've finished the available seasons of NICS: Los Angeles and I'm having anxiety. (no not really, calm down, Mom; this is just hyperbole for the sake of humor). But, yes, I'm totally obsessed with partners Deeks and Kensi. Funny banter and their love story just destroyed me (again, hyperbole). Here's my two favorite funny scenes of them together:

My God, I love them.

The Game of Thrones finale last night delivered. A shocking ending with a death (maybe) of a popular character. Now we wait until April 2016. Doncha just love it? There is strong speculation/evidence that the character himself "died" but he will be resurrected in a different persona next year. It's fantasy, they can do that. The pieces are in place. Oh and Tyrion and Varys are together again. Love it!

Cooler today but it will be back in the 70s and 80s starting tomorrow. Bah.

Have a great Monday!

Much love,
PK the Bookeemonster

Ve haf replaced your silly owls for ze testing

TGIF, baby!

No plans for the weekend. The usual chores and more binge watching. I'm sad that I'm almost at the end of the new episodes.
