Happiness is flapping lips

The Smell of Freedom!

I'm currently re-reading OUTLANDER by Diana Gabaldon. This is 1st of 8 in this historical, time-travel, romance series. Starz is presenting the miniseries of this book sometime this summer and it looks rather good but it had been decades since I'd read this book so I thought I'd refresh my memory. Here is a description:

In 1945, Claire Randall, a former combat nurse, is back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon--when she innocently touches a boulder in one of the ancient stone circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach—an "outlander"—in a Scotland torn by war and raiding border clans in the year of our Lord...1743. Hurled back in time by forces she cannot understand, Claire's destiny in soon inextricably intertwined with Clan MacKenzie and the forbidden Castle Leoch. She is catapulted without warning into the intrigues of lairds and spies that may threaten her life ...and shatter her heart. For here, James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, shows her a passion so fierce and a love so absolute that Claire becomes a woman torn between fidelity and desire...and between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

Published in 1991, it has 896 pages.

Here's the trailer for the miniseries:

How cute/sexy is Jamie? (and learn how to speak Outlander):

And in my rereading, I have to say, I remember now why it is so popular. The story grabs you right away. I think I've only read into the series about three books of the eight. And being an older reader now than I was then, I can understand better the conflict she must have between the love she feels for her husband and then the love she has for Jaimie.

Not much on TV tonight, maybe The First 48.

The sun is shining and it is warming up. Bah.

Much love,
